God Promises to Never Deceive You

God is not a man that he should lie—Numbers 23:19

Some people are very artful at lying; they pride themselves in being able to lie and deceive to the degree they are thoroughly convincing. They have become so good at it, it is difficult for even the most well-trained eye and listening ear to detect when they are not being transparent or truthful. But, because so many things are at stake when people or even institutions and systems lie to us or set out to deceive us, being able to trust others are being truthful, without deceit, is critical.

If you are a student of Paul and are familiar with his letters to the Christian Church, then you already know he spends a lot of time in his Epistles addressing this very issue regarding false prophets and teachers and how they mislead the children of God. And you may have read in the Gospels Jesus’ warning to believers saying, “but he (the devil) is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). Furthermore, God promises to “sanctify us by his truth because his word is truth (John 17:17). Therefore we are to make God’s word our delight and place of abiding.

Because there is so much deception in this world the promise of God not to lie or deceive us is extremely important for us. God is not a chameleon; he does not need to change his colors, his nature, his conversation, nor his character to fit the situation. But he always deals truthfully, honestly, and straightforwardly with his creation. Because he is Truth and has established Truth, there is no fear with him. No fear of being disappointed, no fear of being deceived, no fear that he will renege on even one of his promises recorded for us. As Jesus said, when the Spirit of truth comes he will guide us into all truth (John 16:13)…then knowing the truth we will be set free (John 8:32); free from falling prey to deceptive practices, free from darkness.

Studying what is authentic and real concerning our faith is the only way we will be able to spot what is counterfeit and deceptive in this world. I wholeheartedly agree with the head of the Counterfeit division at Scotland Yard when he said many years ago, “the best way to spot something counterfeit is to study the authentic; the real thing.” And this is our best way to spot the “deceiver” when he comes to mislead us. Satan may be highly skilled and crafty but knowing the word of God and the great promise of God to never deceive us we can live, make decisions, and look to God for guidance knowing we are covered and protected from deception and darkness. We can pray this prayer of faith and superb promise over our lives and atmosphere and the lives of others that we and they may never be deceived nor led astray by the forces of evil and those who have attached themselves to darkness, conducting their lives or business through a spirit of deception. Lets Pray,

Father we stretch our hand to you no other help we know. If we should turn from you where would we go? The world will deceive us, the devil will deceive us but all thanks and praise that you do not have corrupt nature or character that would cause you to lie or deceive; but yours O Lord, is a spirit and character of truth, a rock of truth we can lean against and find shelter in. Your truth and ways are not sinking sand but solid ground we can stand upon without fear of collapsing or falling. We praise and glorify you forever and ever for being our God of promise, free from deception, freeing us from the deception of the world and our great enemy in this world. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
