God Promises to Never Make Empty Promises to You

We have all made promises to others. Some have been made with the greatest thought and sincerity of heart and others have been made at a spur of the moment, without much thought or even intention of fulfilling; flowery words but empty in depth or meaning. Sometimes a product on the market will promise to do great things but when we purchase or investigate them, they do not actually live up to their promise. Many lawsuits stem from that fact. Promises made, promises broken, promises that are sincere with full intent of being carried out, promises made without any intention of being fulfilled. But a promise is a promise and to the one it is made the expectation is that it is redeemable. Sometimes they are and sometimes they are not, thus come disappointment, distrust, even anger and retaliation.

God promises to never make an empty promise to us. Paul write every promise God has made finds its “Yes” its truth and dependability in Christ Jesus and his saving work on the Cross of Calvary. The very first promise God made was based on our need for a Savior to redeem us from sin. He promised to send that Savior to us, and he did, and Jesus obeyed the Father’s will all the way to the cross and his obedience means we are able to redeem the promised salvation that came through him! God did not waiver on that, nor any promises made. He promised Abraham’s descendants would be as numerous as the sands upon the seashore and you and I are living proof that God kept that promise (Gen. 22:17). He promised to send his Holy Spirit after Jesus ascended into heaven to sit at God’s right hand, and the Day of Pentecost to present day is proof he kept that promise (Acts 2:1-21). He promised to forgive our sins and remember them no more and the fact that we are still living and able to enjoy relationship with God and go to heaven when this life is ended is living proof that he kept that promise (Isa. 43:25). Not one promise that God has made that has not been fulfilled, being fulfilled, and will be fulfilled in the future. When we read a promise of God in the Bible, we can depend on its being true, being fulfilled, carried out, and manifested upon the earth and in our life.

Be encouraged to pray God’s promises over your life and the lives of others. God invites us to test his promises by believing in them, trusting him to fulfill them, and living by them. Father, your promises are as solid as the ground we walk on and as dependable as the sun rising and setting each day. Thank you for the mighty promises you have placed over us that find their Yes and amen in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior in whose name we pray, praise and give you thanks. Amen
