Overflowing from Your Heart
A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. (Matthew 12:35, NLT)
A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. I always told my children growing up others—regardless of what kind of person they were—whether deserving of their kindness, compassion, patience, etc, would experience or enjoy the overflow of their good heart; their heart of kindness, love, compassions generosity, etc because they had stored up good, goodness was at the core of their being and heart.
When we belong to God and have Jesus as our Lord and example, and the Holy Spirit as our inner Guide and Compass we also have the presence of and access to all the good there is. The righteousness of God and Jesus becomes ours and we have potential for doing and being good not as an outward show but from our heart and being. That becomes the foundation for the good others will receive from us. Of course, the converse is also true when we reject the Godhead and choose to live otherwise, following wickedness and evil, storing up evil and making darkness our food.
It’s comforting to know we are free to live in such a way that we can want to be and become truly good people, careful to store up good and bringing good to others instead of the other way around. Let’s Pray
May others experience the good overflow of our hearts because we have been careful to store up good. Amen
