Who’s on Your Squad?

 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. (John 14:16-18, ESV)

For Insight

One popular advertisement has a well-known celebrity promoting their services for car protection and care for costly mechanical breakdowns. She says, “I have my work out squad, my savings squad, my brunch squad”… Because she has these things and people in place, as well as her car squad, she feels secure and covered. She has a peace of mind.

In John, although Jesus is going away, he wants his disciples to know that he is not going to leave them as orphans. He promises the disciples and now us, that we will not be left alone to go through this life on our own, without help, and heavenly or spiritual coverage. We’ve got a squad also.

     

Unlike the squads we can put in place to cover our material possessions which always come with limits and conditions and of course the we shouldn’t forget the small or fine print, our heavenly squad consisting of God our Creator who not only creates but recreates and sustains, Jesus our Redeemer and Savior who has secured our eternity and won our salvation, and now sists at the right hand of the Father interceding for us, and the Holy Spirit who comes to live among us but also dwells within us, to give us power for living, power for decision-making and power to resist the devil’s temptations and will comfort, defend, and lead us into all truth.

Life in the Vine is our place of security, confidence and power that does not expire or have fine print. The believer who abides in Christ is more than equipped to overcome hardship, trials, unexpected emergencies, face challenges, sickness, heal us from sorrows and loss and be prepared for death. We don’t have to go outside of this powerful team to find help, security, power, wisdom, protection, health, or strength.

Think of all the Father can do which is not limited. Think of all the Lord Jesus can do on your behalf. Think of all the Holy Spirit can do in and through his power working on your behalf. There is no greater or more powerful squad to align with than this. 

One thing is true, as the spokesperson for the car protection plan knows, there is a sense of peace and added security when you have the right people in place and on your side. No more powerful people can the believer have on their squad than the Holy Trinity.

Lord we are covered and that is more than a good feeling, it brings a peace beyond measure. Thank you for our heavenly and spiritual squad no believer should be without. In Jesus’ name. Amen
