Day 59: February 28, 2023

When Jesus Feels at Home

I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. (Rev.21:3, NLT)

For Insight

Some have been gifted with an extra special portion of hospitality. People who have the spiritual gift of hospitality in addition to good manners they may have been taught as a child, have a wonderful way of making you feel at home. You always enjoy visiting with them.

In the New Testament, especially the Gospels we read about many who were lacking in the gift of hospitality and Jesus always pointed out what poor hosts they were. But we also see those who went to great lengths to make sure Jesus felt at home in their home. This may have been one of the reasons Jesus loved visiting with his good friends Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. He knew he was welcomed in their home, and they went to great lengths to make sure he was comfortable.

We have had the honor of hosting those who have come a distance to visit with us or help us with something in our ministry. We always tried to make sure their stay was comfortable, and they felt welcomed. Was there a special food they liked, a special kind of coffee? Was their room a comfortable space? Were they at peace to share and interact?

Jesus’ home is in heaven, but he wants to make his home with us also. He knows where he is not welcome, only tolerated, but he also knows where he is wanted, and it is in that environment of prayer, openness, and communing he flourishes and brings his specials blessings.

The more we are hospitable toward Jesus the more at home he feels, the more our relationship with him deepens and grows.

Jesus you are welcome to make your home with me! Amen
