You are the God who performs miracles—Psalm 77:14 (ESV)
For Insight
Some have said, be careful that your God isn’t too small. If your God can’t do amazing, miraculous things, if he can’t do miracles and wonders, if he can’t heal and deliver, if he can only do what you can do or is humanly possible then maybe it isn’t the true God that is Sovereign, Omniscient, Omnipresent, and Omnipotent.
The Bible defines a “miracle” as “an extraordinary event taken as a sign of the supernatural power of God; a miraculous, divine intervention in human affairs. An extremely outstanding or unusual event, thing, or accomplishment.”
In Deuteronomy 4:7 Moses asks, “What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to him?”
Like Asaph, David, and others, Moses, had witnessed the works of Israel’s great and mighty God. He had been on the receiving end of God’s miracles that were always on time and always beyond understanding and explanation. He knew God would not only show up on behalf of his people, but his miracles were unmistakable. No one questioned there was divine intervention taking place, directing human affairs, sometimes interrupting, and always accomplishing the desires and plans of God.
We are blessed when we can remember what God can do and are not persuaded by the things we see (or don’t see) at work in our situations or circumstances. It is the devil’s attempt to create confusion or cause despair, disbelief, and hopelessness; make us pity ourselves and stop praying.
When Jesus ascended into heaven the disciples were not just left with good memories of their Teacher they were left with what their eyes had seen; the memories and evidence of the miracles Jesus had performed. Whenever they got into a crunch or came up against enemy forces, they could remember how their Savior had raised the dead and fed the multitudes. They could recall how Christ healed the sick and delivered the demon-possessed. Their memories were clear and their courage was bolstered. What they knew firsthand of Jesus made their testimonies believable and poignant.
God is still willing and able to perform a miracle in the lives of his own children. It is his pleasure to look into our circumstances, see the things that have no human solutions, take our extremes and do those things which are extraordinary, supernatural, and humanly impossible.
For you are great, you do miracles so great and deserve the glory and honor. We bless your name, O Lord. We praise you for your goodness to us and the miracles you perform everywhere and in our lives. Amen
Application:
How great is your God? Are you believing he can work out everything in your life that doesn’t have a human solution or appears to be too complicated or beyond hope?
