Prayer Takes You to the Throne of God
Key Verse to Read and Treasure
Therefore let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [his amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment].—Hebrews 4:16 (Amplified Bible)
For Insight
If you traveled to England, would you have any expectations that you would get an audience with the king of England? That you would be able to speak with the king as he sat on the throne? Or that you would make an appointment with the prince or anyone in the royal family?
Of course not. That’s only done in the movies or fairytales! If this cannot happen [and kings, queens, and princes are only human as we are], how much more amazing it is that the minute we enter into prayer we are ushered into the throne room where God the Father, Creator of all things and Jesus Christ His Son, Redeemer of the universe, Prince of Peace, reign. Not to mention they listen for as long as we care to talk about the things that worry or concern us.
The throne of God is a glorious place where God is surrounded by angels, Seraphim and Cherubim, and living creatures bowing before him, praising him endlessly, serving him. the throne of God is the place we take off our shoes of pride, denial, arrogance, self-righteousness and self-importance and put on the garments of humility, thanksgiving, praise and worship. We are in awe because the King has received our prayers, humble as they are. King of England,Princes,
When the prophet Isaiah saw God sitting on the throne, he thought he would die because of his sinfulness but God sent the seraphim to touch his mouth with a burning coal and took away Isaiah’s guilt. It is at the throne of God our prayers are heard and we receive mercy and grace to help in time of need. We are not destroyed, but our guilt is taken away. The throne of God is a sacred space, a holy place where none other than the children of God are welcomed and have access. Prayer is a righteous activity where those made righteous by the blood of the Lamb have an audience with the King of kings and Lord of lords.
God, our Father thank you for receiving our prayers and through them we enter the throne room. Thank you for Jesus who has made us worthy to come to the throne. Amen
