What a relief! Our prayers do not go up into the open sky, evaporating into a fine mist. They don’t float around with the clouds, landing on nothing, and our prayers don’t fall on deaf ears. They go straight to the ears of God, and he hears every one of them.

There are dozens of verses in the Bible that reassure us God is listening to us as we pray. He is attuned to every one of our prayers. Whether they are strong prayers, energetic prayers, eloquently spoken prayers, or prophetic prayers God hears them all. The small ones, the big ones, the troubled ones, the angry ones, the pleading ones, the confused ones, the lighthearted ones, the ones we cry through and the ones we rejoice and praise. God is listening as we pray for our family, our marriage, our children and grandchildren, our health and the health of others, our finances, our jobs, our ministry, our country, our future and plans and every matter that is on our heart and in our head.  

What a patient and attentive God he is to care about everything we think and are concerned with. Think of the nature of God and that he does not lie nor deceive us. He would not invite and command us to pray unless he was also listening.

As the writer of Hebrews wrote, “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (4:16) what a blessing to pray knowing God is listening and at work in our lives. That means as children of God we don’t need to spend valuable time that we could be praying, wondering whether God hears us, but we can use that time for praying; knowing with certainty God is listening and hears everything we ask or speak to him about. 

Father, at times we have wondered, even doubted our prayers reached your ears. Where we have whispered or thought ‘God are you listening?’ Your Word reassures us that you are listening each time we pray. May our confidence increase and as our prayers rise before you as incense may it be our joy to prayer more and more. Amen
