Never, Ever!

Key Verse to Read and Treasure

I will never leave you nor forsake you—Hebrews 13:5

For Insight

What’s your testimony of suffering in life? Is it one very significant, unforgettable event or several? A continuous journey where you feel you must have been born only to suffer? Either way, there are only three things we are guaranteed in this life. One is death. As surely as we live, we will die. Second is suffering. Jesus said I can tell you this for sure you will have trouble in this life (John 16:33). And the third is the guarantee that can bring us comfort and strength, help us get through and survive any suffering we experience, and that is the promise of God that he will never leave nor forsake us on this journey. We need that promise with us every day and especially during times we are going through a trial, suffering beyond words.

With the eternal presence of God also comes the comfort, strength, help, wisdom, peace, and power of God. These are ours to cling to; they are part of the eternal blessings God has promised us.

God’s character and nature to care for his beloved created are automatic. It does not matter what brought our suffering or trial into being, or what our suffering looks like. The why’s and how-come’s don’t matter to God. God’s thoughts and ways are not our thoughts and ways. He is not thinking because our suffering may be self-induced, or due to stubbornness or disobedience that we will not receive his compassion or help. But he sees our hurt, feels our pain, and reaches for us out of his Father’s heart and love.

Life Lesson

When we suffer, God does only one thing: ministers to us. This is our beautiful guarantee that can take us through and accompany us during any type of suffering.

Prayer

Father, thank you for your promise never to leave nor forsake us at any time in this life, and that includes during times of suffering and trials. We will take comfort in this today and any time we are suffering in any way. Amen
