People have done terrible things in the name of love: lied, cheated, stolen, even murdered. But there have been wonderful, beautiful things done in the name of love also. Because of love people have been fed, clothed, freed, supported, transformed. God loved us so much he sent his only Son, Jesus, to die a cruel death on the cross in our place.
When Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, he told them only three things would remain. Only three things would matter when life is put under the microscope: faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love because love is the only force that will continue to live and exist beyond our earthly experience. In heaven we will be in the presence of love, and we will know only love. There will be no other force or spirit to contend with, nothing to dampen love. Love will not have to be worked at or nurtured. There will be no darkness to overcome it, no competition. No thoughts to the contrary.
We may think of love as an emotion and feeling, even an activity, but, like hate, love is a force and spirit. A force so powerful it is bigger than we are, able to both give and take life. Bring joy and sorrow. Heal and transform. Give us a reason to live and desire to die. God wants us to operate under the force of love which is his own Spirit. When we abide with the Spirit of love, we will experience life. We will know Life and the Life-giver in full just as we are fully known.
Love is the only force that exists and operates in every other season we experience in life. Wherever there is war there is also love. Where breaking down or tearing up, plucking up and mourning love also exists. When love is enjoined to the Spirit of love, all it takes is one individual operating in the love of Christ Jesus to become a powerful force, impacting their environment, shifting the atmosphere, influencing human hearts, and persuading human minds for good.
When we operate under and through the Spirit of God’s love, we also become a powerful force no enemy can overcome or defeat. Loving in season, through every season we will be victorious. When love is active and moving it is not a matter of “will it be victorious”, but a question of how and when we see it manifested. Love never fails.

Jesus, you are love and you show us every day how much you love us. you loved us so much you were willing to die on the cross for us and still to this day you intercede for us daily at the right hand of God. Like the Father’s love, your love cannot be measured and has no end. We are eternally grateful. Help us to love also. Amen
