Seeking All the Right Things

Key Verse to Read and Treasure

A time to seek (Ecclesiastes 3:6, ESV)

For Insight

Many today are seeking fame and fortune. We have never had so many millionaires living during one age as we do now. So many seeking happiness, fulfillment, contentment and satisfaction through material possessions, social media platforms and name recognition. So many seeking wealth, riches, honor among people, knowledge, and glory. So many trying to validate themselves or find importance and value through status, or manmade fame.

Seeking, is not wicked or make us bad people. Seeking better or more stable is a natural, human desire, pursuit, and inclination. But even as we seek, we need to keep our head on straight and our heart in the right place.

Just as God can use the seeking heart for his purposes the devil can also. When the devil uses the seeking heart he will try to persuade and influence you to acquire what you seek through illicit or unscrupulous means. He does not have a conscience. The seeking heart that’s not influenced or filled with the Spirit of God will not have any stopping points. Nothing will be beneath it to do to gain what it seeks. On the converse, God will keep the seeking heart balanced with integrity, humility, and a right perspective of what is moral, ethical, and acceptable by God.

Jesus instructed; “seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). And through the prophet Amos God reminds us we are to seek good and not evil so we can live (Amos 5:14). God also made the seeking heart, which can be manipulated for bad but will be used for good when it’s given over to God. We need to determine we only want what God wants for us and commit to seeking the righteousness of God first, so all other things will be added.

Check Yourself

What are you seeking? Are you first seeking God’s righteousness so you can stay balanced and have a right perspective and priorities?

Praying Ecclesiastes 3:6

Jesus let me be filled with Your Spirit so my seeking is done with integrity and always with righteousness of God in mind.
