At the Right Time

Key Verse to Read and Treasure

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. (Ecclesiastes 3:1, ESV)

For Insight

We already know what a prolific writer King Solomon was by reading the Book of Proverbs, but he outdoes himself with the poem he wrote in Ecclesiastes chapter 3, titled “Time for Everything.”

He wasn’t wrong. We live by time and seasons. Time and seasons shape our days and life. They help keep us on track. Clocks and calendars are as much a part of our day and life as breathing: Time to wake up, time to go to bed, time for breakfast, lunch dinner, time for work, time to get off from work, time for our favorite TV show, time for this or that season.

There’s someone else time is important to and that’s God. God is strategic and he is also a stickler on time and all about doing things in season. He knows time better than anyone and nothing will happen before he has determined. Remember, he didn’t send Jesus until the time was right.

Because God has made time, watches over time, and controls time, down to the proper timing for our life from beginning to end, we can relax, be assured and at peace, trusting him to do everything, not only in his time, but right on time.

Nearly all of us have experienced waiting on God to deliver, heal, guide, bless, or direct us. Anxiously waited for him to make something happen or stop something that was happening. Been tempted to work things out in our own time, felt nervous at times, become anxious, worried and wondered if God was aware of time constraints we were under, and doubted God was going to come through on time. Not even our nervousness has made God speed up the time he enters in. As David wrote in Psalm 31, “Our times are in Your hands O LORD.” (Ps. 31:14-15). When it comes to timing there are no better hands to be in than Gods.

Solomon’s poem on times and seasons is more than eloquent, it is a confirmation of how God ordains and determines every activity under heaven—including human life. God keeps time, and marks seasons, not to frustrate us or make us nervous but comfort and give us peace of mind, remembering he’s an on-time God.

Do you completely trust the timing of God? For everything you are facing or going through? Have you ever gotten impatient with God’s timing and decided to work things out yourself?

Praying Ecclesiastes 3:1

Dear God, sometimes we get nervous about your timing. Thank you for reminding us that you are in complete control of time and we have nothing to be afraid of. Just like the sun rises and sets on time you cannot be late nor early. Amen
