The Mysteries of God
Key Verse to Read and Treasure
The sun rises, and the sun goes down, and hastens to the place where it rises. The wind blows to the south ad goes around to the north; around and around goes the win, and on its circuits the wind returns. All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, there they flow again. (Ecclesiastes 1:5-7, ESV)
For Insight
The things that God set in place at creation are mysterious. How can water flow into the sea and yet is not full? Of the sun know to rise and set without human intervention and programming? Or the wind blow to the south and swing around to the north? Let’s face it our intelligence will never be able to match Gods. And while God allows us to have a hand in many things concerning the earth and how things work, He has never revealed His secret for running the universe and systems to us and never given us power to change any of it.
Have you thought of other things that run or are sustained solely by the power and direction of the Lord? What about things in your own life? There are things we might be able to figure out scientifically, but we will never know or understand more than God allows or enables. And concerning those things unknown to us we can be like David when he wrote in Psalm 131; “I don’t fret myself with things too great for me to know or understand (131:1)
The universe and nature don’t have to be the only things we can be at peace to know so little about or entrust to God to run smoothly, run correctly, and on time. Things we face in our own lives that perplex us, where we have so little control and must depend on God from beginning to end. Even concerning our own bodies and inner workings. Like everything else, God not only directs, but sustains. He creates and then He watches over and governs that which He has created.
Consider that you are part of God’s creation, one of the mysteries we don’t fully understand. And as much knowledge as God has given us about the human body, there are still mysteries, and we must trust God to care for. One thing we can know, without doubt is that everything God has created He also loves and nothing He loves more than you and I. God has promised to keep you going until the time He calls you home to be with Him.
Praying Ecclesiastes 1:5-7
Thank You, Lord, for all the things You have created—including these bodies of ours. Thank You especially for sustaining and caring for all the things that remain a mystery to us. May we be at peace to trust You to care for the earth, the universe and us. Amen
