Before You Were Even Born

Key Verse to Read and Treasure

God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us to do good works, which God planned in advance for us to live our lives doing. (Ephesians 2:10, NCV)

For Insight

Have you given thought to the magnitude of what Paul wrote in his letter to the people of Ephesus; those that belonged to the church and were part of the Body of Christ? How awesome to think of how God thought about your life before you were even born. He thought about your personality, the talents He would knit into you, the gifts the Holy Spirit would assign you, and considered what your journey would look, like then arranged all the good works you would be able to accomplish during your lifetime. That’s truly amazing; mind-boggling! That means there is no such thing as happenstance, coincidence, or fate when it comes to the opportunities presented to you along the road of life.

One of our granddaughters was hired at Yale recently. She will be working in Labor and Delivery. She loves birthing babies! My eyes filled up with tears as I studied the photo she sent me. All decked out in her nurse’s uniform, holding her official badge that gives her access. I was so proud of her, but more than that, my heart was full because I thought of how God has lined all these things up for her and for her special journey, unique for her. I think of God’s awesomeness each time one of our children, grandchildren, and so many others walk through a door God has opened for them. Remembering how these places and positions were arranged before God even knit them in the womb.

This is only one of the reasons we can rejoice in the Lord, for. Only one of the ways He cares and provides for us. Just one of the areas and ways His promises are manifested in our lives and His mercies and grace experienced.

Today—as every day—is a perfect day to think of the many opportunities God has put in your life that allow you to serve Him by serving others, stepping into those opportunities presented that have your name written all over them knowing they have been prepared by God way in advance for you to fill and accomplish.

Praying Ephesians 2:10

Lord God, show me the good works You have planned in advance of my life and journey for me to do and accomplish. Then, give me the heart to do them and the will to accept and obey Your will for me. Amen

Prayer Challenge

Ask God to lead you to the places and opportunities He has already planned in advance for you to hold and fulfill.

  1. Reading Psalm 139 was like looking into a mirror. My prayer is for forgiveness and guidance. Knowing my frailties and being reminded not of who I am but whose I am brought tears to my eyes. Not tears of sadness but tears of Thanksgiving. My heart is full this morning…Thank you Lord for loving me.
