Thank God, He Doesn’t Change
Key Verse to Read and Treasure
For I the LORD do not change (Malachi 3:6, ESV)
People change. Seasons change. Relationships change. Finances change. Minds change. Time changes. Plans change. Life changes, even the status of our health changes. Everything around us changes except God. In a constantly changing world and environment God’s changeless commitment, loyalty, love, faithfulness and care can provide longed for security and peace.
In my younger years I enjoyed changing our home around. I discovered that even little things like moving furniture, changing color schemes, changing meals to fit whatever season we were in, could make a big difference in the feel of our environment and atmosphere.
It would be good if all the changes we experience in life assured a more positive outcome or added something positive to our life, like planned pregnancies and births, completing a degree, promotions, and pay increases, but they don’t. Sometimes the changes we experience are forced upon us and seem to make things (even) worse than before. Perhaps our health starts to decline or we lose our job. Maybe a parent dies or we find ourselves becoming a care-giver and have a lot more to balance in our day-to-day and week. Human mistakes, traumas, and natural disasters can also force big changes in the way we live.
Because God is changeless, He provides something and someone steady and reliable to cling and look to. What a welcome relief and fact this is as we live life in an ever-changing world. Even though God does not keep or prevent changes from happening, just knowing He is unchanging, consistent, and reliable, can help us find peace and acceptance that life is going to be filled with changes—both good and unwelcomed.
Praying Malachi 3:6
This is our comfort heavenly Father, that you do not change. Your changeless character and heart become our peace and refuge when the unexpected has come or the world and life around us are changing quicker than we can count. You provide the stability we need, just when we need it. Amen
Take comfort in the character and promises of God even as your personal life and this world are changing.
