The Spiritual Gift of Administration
Key Verse to Read and Treasure
We take this course so that no one should blame us about this generous gift that is being administered by us, for we aim that it is honorable not only I the Lord’s sight but also in the sight of man. (2 Corinthians 8:20-21, ESV)
For Insight
If you have the spiritual gift of administration, you most likely also have natural talents for organizing, managing, and leading others in their duties. In the business world people who have this gift are great to have in leadership roles, and in areas where things or people need to be directed to do things in an orderly fashion and in religious organizations and congregational life, they are especially helpful if they also have the gift of faith and leaning toward trusting in God.
The Holy Spirit gifts us from his own gifts; meaning he shares his gifts and abilities with us as he chooses and how he deems to use us. He is an amazing Administrator and Manager, and Christ who is the head of the Church, turns the activities of the earthly Church over to him for this very reason. It’s true the Holy Spirit is sent to lead us into all truth, but he also comes to lead us in every other way. He comes to administer and dispense spiritual gifts; to run the Church in the way that’s pleasing to the Lord Jesus.
As part of his apostolic duties, Paul had the responsibility of administering and organizing the relief fund and thank offering being collected for the support of struggling churches. No better person to do so because he was not only trustworthy, but a man full of faith and emboldened by faith in Jesus. In the Christian Church it’s not enough that we may have an academic degree in administration, run a company in the business world, or have been professionally trained in this area, if we have been given the spiritual gift of administration for the church then we are gifted to work under and in concert with the Holy Spirit. We are not the one in charge, but under the direction of the Spirit, who always serves as Chief and Supreme Administrator and Manager under Christ.
Business world, earthly Church, or even in our own individual lives and affairs the Holy Spirit will help us become efficient at being administrators that glorify God in our duties.
Praying 2 Corinthians 8:20-21
You gift us, Holy Spirit in accordance with your will and knowing how you want to use us to care for others and the earthly Church. Whether we are set in place to serve for larger purposes or whether we need to be good administers of our own lives bless us to be a blessing and glorify God in all we do. Amen
