God Comforts the Hurting and Afflicted

Of course, as we’ll see at a later time this verse continues, making clear our response to the comfort God imparts to us, but for now let’s consider that God the Father enters our life and circumstances when we are hurting or in trouble with one purpose in mind and that is to comfort us. Paul describes God as compassionate, comforting God. He is one who comes on the scene not to ridicule or lay blame or tell us why we should not be hurting—since sin or the messed-up things in our world are partly our fault after all—but he comes with comfort. Jesus was comforter also. He got his comforting nature and attitude from his Father. The moment any of the Holy Trinity enter the atmosphere shifts to one of comfort. The solace of God is undeniable.
God is the Most Excellent comfort-giver. He never has gaffes. Meaning, he does not make embarrassing blunders, have breaches of sensibilities, flub nor flounder. His comfort is perfect and impeccable. These days we might lose count of the ways and events God’s comfort is needed. The recent acts of violence which include mass shootings and other losses remind us all over the world and right up under our nose people need to experience the comfort of God.
As you meditate on and treasure today’s key passage it might be helpful to consider whenever we experience the supernatural peace that surpasses all our understanding or being strengthened by God, we are also experiencing his comfort. God’s comfort for hurting and troubled people may take on many forms but it will always be applicable for the circumstances we face and the need we have.
Praying 2 Corinthians 1:3
Father God, you are the God of all mercies which include your divine comfort. We are comforted today as we are reminded of how intuitive and compassionate you are towards us and that you always know how to comfort us in our time of need, especially when we are hurting or in trouble. May all who need your comfort today experience it. Amen
