Lesson Focus: God Helps Us Win Battles
1.Read 2 Chronicles 20:15
And he said, “Listen, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the LORD to you, “Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours, but Gods.”
2.Studying 2 Chronicles 20:15
You may have just read something like this when you read Psalm 144:1-2 as David wrote that “God trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle.” Same message, just different wording. We may not like to think of God as a God of war. After all the activity of war seems contradictory to the God we want to know and claim as the God of love, the God who comforts, is peaceable, huggable, and forgiving, but he is a God of war also. War does not exist without casualties. If you have a battle to face, a war to fight there is no greater or more powerful force, no better partnership you can form than with the God of heaven and earth. He is valiant in battle, no one—not even your smartest enemy—can out strategize him. He will enter the battlefield and place you behind him, so you don’t get the fiery darts of the enemy; so you do not end up being a casualty of war.
There is no room for nor need for fear in battle, so how does God help you fight your battles confidentially? How does he “train your hands for war and your fingers for battle? He instructs and teaches you the ways of war from a supernatural, biblical perspective. The Scriptures and prayer become your classroom. God knows every strategy of every enemy you face. Be they humans, systems, spiritual forces in the heavenlies or all around. He knows them and can show you how to deal with them. If you have a battle to fight, a war you have been pushed or brought into then there is only one sure path to victory and successful outcome and that is with the One who never loses a war or battle: God the Warrior, God mighty in battle and victorious in war.
Meditating on 2 Chronicles 20:15
Even if you are not presently engaged in any kind of “war or battle” you are automatically at war with the forces of evil simply because you are a child of the MOST High God. You may not have one enemy that you know of on this earth but because God is your Father and Jesus your Savior, Satan has targeted you and become your enemy. How will you meditate on King Jehoshaphat’s prayer (or David’s) biblical strategy concerning war, today?
Praying 2 Chronicles 20:15
God, war is inevitable. At some point we will not only read about, hear about, or learn about some war or battle taking place but be at war in a personal way. Regardless of who or what our enemy is teach us your ways, train our hands for war and our fingers for battle, keep us from cowering in fear because you are with us and the only casualty of war with be one part of darkness and not us. Amen
