In today’s Take-5 Study we will look at the power of a holy conversation.

That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem, 14 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. (Luke 24:13-15, ESV)

What were the two men talking about? How do you think their conversation went?

The Power of Discussing the Scriptures with Others
The conversation between these two friends can remind of us Jesus’ promise in Matthew 18:20 when he said “Where two or three are gathered in my name there I am in the midst of them.” They were walking and talking together not just engaged in ordinary matters, the things we sometimes talk to friends about: the weather, politics, marriage, children, grandchildren, health and work, but they were talking about the events over the past three days; about the crucifixion of Jesus the Christ, the way he had appeared to Mary and some others. They did not recognize Jesus at first, not until he broke the bread, said a blessing over them and vanished before their eyes. But afterward, they confessed to others their “hearts had burned within them as Jesus was speaking with them.” (Luke 24:32)
When the Lord is in the midst of us ordinary conversations can turn into extraordinary worship experiences. In fact he is standing near just waiting for an opening to join in.

The Power of a Christ-Centered, Resurrection Prayer:
Jesus, reshape our ordinary conversations into those that center on you and the Scriptures so we can experience your promise where two or three are gathered in your name there you are in the midst of us. Amen
