In today’s 5-minute study we look at how much God loves us.

Key Passage:

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. (I John 4:9, ESV)

Optional Read I John 4: 7-12

The Power of Observation:

With whom does love originate?

What proof do you have that God loves you?

The Power of Self-Awareness

Because of the messages of the world or life experience do you ever have a difficult time grasping or believing the fullness of God’s love for you?

When you look at the cross what is your first and lingering thought?

Power to learn from and apply what you read in God’s Word:

It would be tempting to live life under our own power and wavering between feeling loved and uncertainty. When we read John’s letter, we are told in the very beginning that God is love, that he loves us, and that his love for us has been manifested (made known) through Jesus Christ. Sadly, there are many who do not experience love from their family or those close to them. They may only know they are unwanted, a burden, get in the way, have been the reason someone did not get to pursue or fulfill their own dreams. Because they have not known love it may be hard for them to grasp the kind of love God provides and has for them. God’s word is truthful, and we can believe what he tells us. When he says he loves us so much he was willing to send his only Son to the cross to die for our sin so we can have a future with him in heaven, it is truth we can bank on and can share with others.  It is a truth we can relax and rejoice in. If you continued reading verses 7-12 or the whole chapter then you also read that because God is love and because his love is pure and powerful for us, we can also love one another with that same kind of love. That means we can help the unloved experience love that is true, pure and without motive or intention to exploit.

The Power of Prayer

God, it would be so easy to doubt your love for us, so easy to accept how much you love us. Help us to believe, accept and learn to rejoice in your love manifest through Jesus our Lord and Savior. Amen
