We Can Always Count on God…

And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:20, ESV)

Ten things we can always count on God to do and be in our lives:

God will always love us unconditionally

God will always be with us

God will always forgive us when we ask for forgiveness

God will always be stronger than our adversary

God will always remain faithful to his plan for our lives

God will always be tender toward us when we are feeling especially fragile and vulnerable

God will always defend and protect us against our arch enemy the devil

God will always be a strong tower for us to run to, a shield of protection to surround us

God will always guide us through the power of His Holy Spirit

God will always be faithful, gracious, and merciful toward us

There are many other “always” about God not mentioned here but they are recorded for us in the Scriptures for our assurance, comfort, strength and certainty. The “always” of God can be just the thing we need to overcome the trials and challenges we face; the uncertainties we deal with and the disappointments we experience as we journey along. Because God is “always” a certain way we can always be strong and feel protected.

In a changing world it’s good to have things we know we can always count on, regardless of what else is going on around us. While we would like to have this assurance with other areas or concerning people, there is no other activity, not even any person we can apply “always” to.  When we know the “alwaysness” of God we can be and do as David wrote in Psalm 16:8, “I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.”  Let’s Pray,

God, because of the ways you are “always” we can be that way in our faith toward you. Thank you for this comfort and assurance. May we learn about your steadfast ways more and more. Amen

Reflective Questions and Thoughts for Self and Soul-Tending:

How does today’s message comfort, inspire, or assure you on your journey? Can you add more “always” to the list we have before us today? What are they? How will you incorporate today’s message into your plan of self and soul-care?
