Remembering the Kindnesses of God…
When our ancestors were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea. (Psalm 106:7, NIV)

We are truly blessed to have loving children and thoughtful neighbors. Between them, our gutters are cleaned, our snow removed, we have help with leaves in the fall, trash bins brought up from the curb; so many kindnesses we receive from others. We are always grateful and remember those who are so helpful and kind in our prayers; an attitude of gratitude help us remember and not forget.

Throughout this life, even though life can be hard on us, trials enter in, struggles zap our energy, sickness and pain set us back, we are never without the kindnesses of God. His kindnesses are fresh and new each season and day. At time we might think they have dried up or stopped but they are always with us; as Jeremiah said; his mercies are new each day they never cease. (Lam. 3:22-24)
God’s kindnesses toward Israel were seen in the parting of the Red Sea, in his covering and deliverance, in his unconditional love and forgiveness, as he gave them victory in battle and fed and nourished them and they don’t look any different toward us today as he parts our seas, waters our deserts, feeds, nourishes, and cares for us, as he delivers and heals us.

The Israelites had forgotten how good and kind God had been and had to be reminded again and again. One way we can remember the kindnesses of God is by keeping an attitude of gratitude. Let’s Pray,

God, you are so kind and gracious to us; you have never withheld your kindness and we thank you so much. May we, even in the midst of trials and difficulties, remember how kind you are. Amen
For Examination and Reflection:
What kindnesses of God do you recall today?
How will you incorporate today’s message into your plan of self and soul-care?
