Regarding the Feeling of Accomplishing…

When he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, “It is completed!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (John 19:30, NET Bible)

Not much compares to the feeling that comes from accomplishing something we have been working at. Whether it’s learning to ride our bicycle without training wheels, passing our driver’s exam, and getting our license, passing that test we’ve been studying so hard for, earning that diploma, degree, or certification, losing those pounds we have been wanting to get rid of for so long, paying off debt, completing some medical tests or regaining the use of some part of our anatomy after a stint in rehab. Our chests bursts with pride, our mind is relieved, and we are happy with ourselves—or others—as we should be.

The last words Jesus spoke from the cross were “It is finished.” He had run the race, completed the mission his heavenly Father sent him to do and now he was set free to return to his heavenly home, to sit at the right hand of God the Father. Mission accomplished; the Law had been fulfilled; God’s people set free from the grips of Satan! 

One day we’ll have that same feeling when it comes to making it home to heaven. The gospel song says we can only imagine what it will be like when we make it home to be with the Lord! No feeling of accomplishment on earth will compare to what we will feel once we enter the gates of heaven and realize where we are. In the meantime, what do you need to accomplish right now in your life, in this season, or in your day? Whatever it is you can do it. You have the strength of the Lord with you; the power of the Holy Spirit who lives inside you, the great crowd of witness cheering you on, and knowing God wants you to experience that feeling of accomplishment in your life and circumstances. Let’s Pray,

Lord, we love that feeling; there is little that compares to it: accomplishing something we have longed or worked hard for. Thank you for all the help you give us, thank you for providing those moments in our life, thank you for loving us and being steadfast on our journey of life. Amen
