Regarding Aging and Wisdom…

Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5, NIV)

If we continue living we will become old or older, but just because we age or get older does not mean we also become wiser. Being old and wise is not a given; we should not assume the two go hand in hand. If we are young and foolish, unless we start asking God for wisdom we will be old and just as foolish.

Do you ever wonder why more people aren’t wise? James says if we want to be wise or wiser, if we are lacking wisdom, we should ask God who gives generously and he won’t belittle, criticize, or make fun of us for asking. He won’t rake us across the spiritual coals as to why we haven’t spent more time praying for wisdom or seeking heavenly wisdom before now; but he will give it and generously.

No matter how old we are, it’s never too late to seek God’s wisdom, to trade in worldly wisdom (or foolishness) for godly and heavenly wisdom. To desire wisdom above all things; to want it even more than riches or fame, even more than we want a strong following on social media is a wise decision that will bring life on all levels.

Have you been thinking of the ways or areas you could use more of God’s wisdom; how wisdom would enhance life and relationships? When we make wisdom, pray for wisdom, and becoming wise a priority or core value we live by—whether we are 9, 19, 39, 69, or 99—God will honor our prayers and fill us up, pour out his wisdom generously. Our friends or relatives, co-workers, or spouse, may wonder how we got so smart and became so wise! Let’s Pray,

Heavenly Father, wisdom is what we most need in this life, even more than material riches, even more than popularity and financial security. Thank you, that whatever age we begin asking for wisdom you give it, generously, and without judgment. Amen
