Regarding Core Values…

Whatever you have learned or received from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:9,ESV)

As you study the Scriptures are you recognizing values that can become your “core” values as you live out this life?

Core values are those things we hold dear and live by. They are the principles or standards that tell others what is important to us in life. Anyone can have core values, you don’t have to be a Christian to have them, but when you belong to Christ and are striving to live a godly life, your core values might be shaped by the values and principles you see highlighted as you read and study the Bible. Topics such as generosity, courage, integrity, love, forgiveness, respect, compassion, and hope—to name a few—come up again and again. You might notice how God blesses this kind of living and those who hold these principles and attitudes dear to their heart, which dictate their behavior and determine to make them your values as well; the standard by which you conduct your own life.

The Apostle Paul did not claim to be perfect, in fact he was quick to refer to himself as the “chief of sinners” (I Timothy 1:15), but he was confident that he exampled for others those character traits that were important for a child of God to possess. Whenever he was with others, he made sure they saw his strong work ethic and how his love for others was genuine. He did not just preach or teach about peace but displayed Christian peace in his life and attitude.

For as long as I can remember my husband has preached that “people will read us far more than they read the Scriptures.” and in that case we should be careful our core values are based upon the character of Jesus and the word of God, when they are, we cannot go wrong. Let’s Pray,

Lord, let my core values be strong, pure, wholesome and shaped by the Word of God.  Amen
