What the Lord Says Regarding Lavish Love

See what Great love the Father has lavished on us. (I John 3:1, NIV)

God has this way of loving us that is awesome. No one can ever love us like God loves us. John writes, God has lavished his love on us—that is both past tense, presently, and in the future. When we are lavish, we do something or give in great abundance, exuberantly, without measure. When God lavishes anything upon us it is with an even greater measure than we can ever fathom or imagine; every part of us and our life is covered by him.

When our children were growing up and I would make homemade cinnamon rolls they looked for the cream cheese icing to be everywhere, in abundance and not skimpy. They could spot a tiny corner or place in the pan that was not covered with icing and were quick to point it out to me. When I iced the rolls, I knew I needed to be lavish, generous with my hand, slathering it on, and not holding back so my children would enjoy the treat I had prepared for them out of love.

God does not scrimp nor is he stingy when it comes to loving or blessing us, but he lavishes his love, pours out his love and affections on us because we are his children. Each day we can look for the ways he lavishes his love and affections on us. Let’s Pray,

Thank you, Father for loving us like you do, for not being stingy with your love or holding back your affections, but loving us with holy abandonment. We are blessed to be your children, so dearly loved. Amen
