A Prayer for Racial Healing
How wonderful and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! (Psalm 133:1, NIV)
Lord, how good it is when brothers and sisters can dwell together in unity, in the same land, neighborhood, community, and world with a spirit of acceptance and peace. How good it is when we can get along together. It’s truly like soothing oil running down to make
Lord, today is a good day to pray for racial healing in our land, and everywhere. A good day to pray for much needed but increasingly allusive peace with one another. It’s a good day to remember to pray we have a change of attitude, a change of heart, a new way of behaving and thinking about others different from ourselves. It’s a good day to ask for a spirit of love to permeate every corner and remembrance that we all belong to the same human family; regardless of how we look outwardly.
Lord, it’s a great day to remember, but an even better day to let go of the things and attitudes that tear us apart, fuel bitterness and promote hatred. It’s a great day to pray for a greater display of respect for one another and to let go of racist attitudes, discrimination practices, toxic mindsets, and politics that divide.
It’s a great day, Lord to ask for your forgiveness for the ways we have behaved and the examples we have set for the generations coming behind us. It’s a great day to ask for resolve to do the right thing every day, even after today is tomorrow.
Lord, let your peace rain down upon us. Let love and respect for one another be the new order of the day and just like the rains and snow that come from heaven and do not return without achieving their purpose may we be those who usher in and secure the change that is needed.
Lord, open our eyes that we may see the worth and value of each human life and open our hearts that we may repent of our former ways and treat one another with dignity and worth. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen
