A Prayer to Remember God’s Word is Alive, Sharp, and Applicable to Life Today
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. (Hebrews 4:12, NLT)
Lord, we can name any subject or area of life and you have something to say about it. When we are confused, grieving, bitter, lost, anxious, in poor health, fearful, emotionally distraught, spiritually depleted, sexually confused, dreading the future or unknown, treading dangerous ground morally, relationally, spiritually we can always go to your Word and find something recorded that will help, comfort, strengthen, and direct us. You always have something to say about whatever ails or perplexes us in this life and world: pearls of wisdom to share with us.
Lord, your counsel, advice, and direction through your Word mean nothing to the world. To the unbeliever it’s useless, foolishness, nothing but jibber-jabber, nothing to be regarded or esteemed, but to those who have put their trust in you, cherish your counsel, treasure your honesty, aspire to grow in knowledge, wisdom, and spiritually, the Word of God is everything, the Bible a reliable source and manual and the Holy Spirit a trustworthy Counselor and life-companion.
We can open Your Word and find the answer for whatever we are faced with. We may not always like what you say to us through your Word—sometimes your word convicts our heart and stings our conscience, but one thing is for sure you always puts us on the right track, plant a seed in our mind, and touch our heart, bringing us to that needed sense of rightness.
We confess that at times we don’t want to accept what you are saying, and in comparison to the world’s counsel and advice sometimes your word seems unrelatable, detached, or archaic, but one thing is for sure you never mislead us and never seek to harm us through the word you provide. Thank you that your word is the same for all ages and every generation. Thank you for providing a source that we can count us to be truthful and frank with us. Thank you for using such a powerful tool to lead and guide us through this life and getting us through tough times, high mountains, and stormy waters. Amen
Prayerful Activity:
Spend some time with God in his word and reflect on the counsel, comfort, peace, wisdom, or strength he provides through it.
