A Prayer to Remember the Presence of God at Christmas and Beyond

The LORD replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses…everything will be fine for you. (Exodus 33:14, NLT)

Lord God, Moses wanted to know who would be with them when they departed Egypt and began their journey, continuing it until they reached their destination: the land you promised to them, and you assured him Your very own special presence would go the journey with them. What a comforting word to give, what a comforting promise to receive.

At Christmas time we celebrate the gift of Your own presence here on earth, when You sent Your Son Jesus as a baby to be with us. He would live on earth and then die on the cross for our sins, years later. He would rise on the third day and then ascend into heaven. His physical presence was no longer among us, but we were not alone, now Your presence is with us through Your own precious, hovering Spirit. Your Holy Spirit is here to accompany us until our own journey on earth is complete.

Your promise of accompaniment gave Moses’ comfort as they embarked on their journey and may we also be comforted as we are reminded during this season of Christmas that You are with us. May seeing the baby Jesus in the manger scene remind us of your promises which never fail. Reminded You are just as powerful, faithful, loving, forgiving, and real today as You were thousands of years ago. Whenever we feel alone or frightened, hopeless, or discouraged on this journey may we remember Your presence and find our true rest and peace in the truth Your presence goes with us everywhere we go, and through every generation. Amen

A Prayerful Activity:

Give the nativity a prominent place among your decorations to serve as a reminder of the presence of God in your life and on earth.

Fill in the promise God made to Moses in Exodus 33:14, with your own name.
