The Blessings of Studying
Study and do your best to present yourself to God approved. (2 Timothy 2:15, Amp. Bible)
I’m not a gadget lover and usually balk whenever my husband wants to purchase one, but occasionally he gets one that does not go into the gadget graveyard, but actually turns out to be quite useful like the Egg Pod. That egg-shaped contraption that goes in the microwave, can hold up to four eggs at once, simply microwave for ten minutes, rinse in cold water for two, shake and the peels fall right off! Wala! I love it! Maybe greater than my delight at how easy making and peeling boiled eggs has become is the fact that someone loved boiled eggs enough to study up on how they could be made perfectly, without much fuss and guarantee a perfect end result.
The Apostle Paul instructed his spiritual son Timothy, to “study to show himself approved.” Meaning as Timothy pastored and instructed his young flock, to make sure he was well studied himself. Being married to a pastor myself and remembering how we left home and family so he could receive formal training at the seminary in order to study and become equipped to lead others as a pastor, I can appreciate what Paul told young Timothy. Because he studied the Scriptures, Timothy grew and matured into a wonderful pastor and leader.
Whether we are studying for an academic degree, level of credentialling or certification, job-related for knowledge or greater responsibility, or other area, when we discipline ourselves to study, we will enjoy numerous benefits. Studying, at any age, can open doors for us and bring blessings from God that he has stored up just for us when we submit ourselves to studying. Let’s Pray
Oftentimes we resist studying Lord. Whether it is studying for school or job or even the Scriptures. But there are blessings we cannot experience unless or until we submit to studying. Give us a heart to study and help us excel in whatever we are studying. Amen
