From His Throne

In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. (Isaiah 6:1)

What an awesome peek at God and into heaven God gave the prophet on that day! This vision Isaiah was blessed to have was not only impactful and powerful for him during his time, but for us in our day also. There God was, high and lifted up, sitting upon his throne in heaven but also spilling over onto earth. With Isaiah, we are reminded that God is so large he cannot be contained in any one place or limited space. He is in heaven yes, he fills the heavens, but not even the heavens, or the universe is big enough to hold all of him.

What a comforting thought we can have from Isaiah’s chronicles. We might be going through something tough or trying, something that threatens to overwhelm or overcome us, but if what Isaiah was shown comes to our remembrance we can be comforted and assured instead. Remembering and knowing that God is in heaven but also close to us in our situation. Because the train of his robe spills over onto earth and into our life, situations, and circumstances, then we can experience his greatness, his love, his peace, his strength, his wisdom, his guidance. All that he is overflows into our life.

Another story in the Gospels might remind us of the power that emanates from the Lord’s robes and that is concerning the woman in Matthew (9:20) who was sick and had visited many doctors who were unsuccessful in their attempts to heal her condition. She had spent all her money, exhausted all her resources and was mentally and emotionally exhausted and financially depleted. When she learned Jesus was coming through her town she determined if she was able to touch the hem of his garment she would be healed. She had faith that even the hem of his garment contained everything she needed for her life and situation, and she was not disappointed. We might feel alone or powerless in our circumstances, but the hem of God’s robe is adequate and always overflowing. Spilling over and holding everything we need for our situation. When we pray we are touching that very powerful hem. Let’s Pray

Mighty God, You sit on the throne in heaven but your robe also spills over into my life and circumstances. I trust even the train of your robe brings enough power to change my circumstances. Amen
