Consider the Birds
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? (Matthew 6:26, NIV)
The deeper meaning behind the parable of the birds and how God faithfully feeds them, is provision and value. God’s provision for and the value he places upon even the tiniest helpless creature can be an important revelation and insight for human beings. We can consider, if God takes time and makes sure to provide for these little ones then surely he will provide for us also, and his provision is not limited to food. Because he values even the tiny bird, then surely he values us even more. Though the devil and sometimes inner doubt will tempt us to think otherwise, God is a faithful provider. He provides every need we have including clothing, shelter, companionship. Sometimes he brings the provision to us—lays it in our lap—and other times—like the birds—he directs us, sends us to retrieve it—tells us where to find it, all we need to do is stay open, listening, watching, trusting. God will not fail to provide for us and he will never consider us as lesser or least important of all his creation. If we are as trusting as a little bird, rarely will we starve or go without what’s needed to sustain us in life. Let’s Pray,
Dear God, thank you for providing our needs—whether great or small. You consider us as move valuable than birds and will stop at nothing to make sure we are cared for in this life. May we look to you and learn to trust you more. Amen
