The Medicine God Chooses
Now Isaiah had said, “Let them take a lump of figs, and apply it as a poultice on the boil, and he shall recover.” (Isaiah 38:21, NKJV)
When king Hezekiah as sick and dying God sent the prophet Isaiah to issue a prescription. He told Isaiah to tell Hezekiah to have his servants take a “lump of figs and apply it as a poultice to the boil on Hezekiah’s body, that took care of the poison going into his body and brought about a miraculous healing. Hezekiah was obedient and lived 15 more years. Unfortunately many today reject God’s medicine made possible through earthly science or advanced medical know-how. Believing if God wants them healed, he will do it through supernatural ways and methods. I wonder if this disappoints God or saddens his heart. If it says to God, we do not believe he can work through any means (or people) he chooses to bring about a healing. God said he would heal our diseases, but he does not have to say how he will do that. He can do it any way he chooses whether it’s spitting on dirt, making mud and applying it to our eyes (John 9:1-11), speaking a word to or over us (Matthew 8:1-4), putting his fingers in our ears to make us hear again (Mark 7:33), sending us into dirty water to dip until our skin is cleared up (2 Kings 5:1-14), or having a healing conversation with us as we sit beside a well (John 4:4-26). Anyway, God wants he can bring about our healing. When we reject the methods God wants to use to heal us we also reject his sovereignty, compassion, power, and deny his supremacy over everything. Let’s Pray,
Dear God, sometimes we forget you can use any method you like in order to heal us. help us to be careful about the things we reject or dismiss because they have not come the way we think they should. Amen
