God’s Holy Temple
The LORD is in his holy temple. (Habakkuk 2:20, NIV)
Did you know it pleases God when you take good care of yourself? Although our minds usually go to the highest heavens or the beautiful temple of Zion in heaven, or even earthly edifices when we read the prophet Habakkuk’s words, the temple of God also includes the human body and in particular the bodies of those who belong to the Lord and follow him. Anyplace the Lord dwells becomes holy. Therefore, we can comfortably say that as his Spirit dwells in the human body we can see now see and treat our bodies as his holy home also.
Caring for your body—God’s temple, is pleasing to God. you already do all you can to pay attention to your spiritual life so also do all you can to care well for yourself, be a good steward of your person. That includes eating a balanced diet, exercising in ways your body and abilities allow, drinking plenty of fresh water to stay hydrated and nourish your cell life, making sure you get plenty of sleep and don’t neglect taking needed medications prescribed for you, having rest periods from work, as well as keeping your brain sharp. The next time you are tempted to neglect your body you might be encouraged to look at it this way: God lives in this holy temple; you want to honor his dwelling place the best you can! Let’s Pray
Dear God, make our bodies your home and help us to take good and better care of them because taking good care honors you. Amen
