Incomparable.

“LORD, there is no one like you.” (Jeremiah 10:6, GNT)

We all have people we admire. And that is okay. As long as we are not wanting to be like them to the point we lose touch with who God has made us to be individually and uniquely. And there are people we will be compared to and that is fine; it’s going to happen. Just as long as we don’t feel as though we need to live in that person’s shadow or be like them just because others say we are.

Jeremiah wrote that there was none like God. No one could compare to him: To his might, his power, his greatness. People made other gods for themselves, but no manmade god could ever measure up to Almighty God, or be compared to who the true, great all-powerful, sovereign God was. Just as we are unique and individual, God is also unique. There is only one him, one God and no other god can come anywhere close to who he is. Moses wrote in Deuteronomy ‘and what other nation has a god like our God (Deut. 4:7) It is not just the nearness of out God when we call on him in prayer that sets him apart, it is everything about him!

When we think about human life. While we don’t have God’s power or might or greatness to be sure. And we cannot be compared to God in any way. But we might be encouraged and happy to know that God does view us as incomparable. We may have similarities in character that others have but he does not compare us to others. He does not look at us and say, “You need to be more like your brother, sister, friend, etc… Or, “You should live your life more like so and so.” Or, I wish you were more like…” No, God relates to us as his unique, incomparable creation whom he loves and cares for. He made us purposely and wonderfully (Ps. 139:14).

You may have been or being compared to others but there is none other like you. Someone may come close, but they will never be just you. Knowing how God feels about and sees you gives you the freedom, encouragement, courage, and confidence you need to be you and nobody else! Let’s Pray

Dear God, thank you for making me, molding me, and seeing me as incomparable! How you love me! Knowing this is how you feel toward me gives me a sense of freedom, assurance and confidence to just be me. There must be something very special about me that I don’t always recognize—and that’s okay—as long as I know how you feel toward me. Amen
