The Head and not the Tail.

“The LORD will make you the head (leader) and not the tail (follower); and you will be above only, and you will not be beneath, if you listen and pay attention to the commandments of the LORD your God.” (Deuteronomy 28:13, Amplified)

What a powerful conditional promise we have been given by our heavenly Father. But it’s often a promise that remains dormant and untapped in our personal lives and world. God never says or promises anything that does not have power, truth, or meaning behind it. He wanted the Israelites to know who they were, their position, how they were to go through life, relate to other countries, know what they had been given, and their all-powerful God. And he recorded it so we would also know who we are, our position, how we are to go through life, what we have been given, and all of the attributes and power of our God.

When God makes you the head and not the tail, he wants you to understand that you are to be a leader: your own person. That you are to be a powerful force in your own life, not given to following the ill or uniformed. That you have been given dominion over your personal world which encompasses how you see life, how you walk through life, and how you think. You are to be in the position of headship over your thoughts, over your heart, over your emotions, over your mouth/tongue, over your body, over your reactions, over your attitude and over your daily habits. You are not to be given to following others down dark roads and rabbit holes that lead to death and undoing. You cannot be like the comedian Flip Wilson who was so popular back in the 60’s and 70’s when he used to say, “The devil made me do it!” No, because you are the head you are to be in control of your-self, your person, your mind, your attitude, this is your domain to control and no one else’s.

Daniel is a wonderful example of someone who knew he was the head and not the tail. Even when his enemies spied on him and had him thrown into the lions den for carrying out his vows of prayer to his God. even as they stood by waiting for his demise and a bloody outcome, Daniel knew the truth: he was the head and not the tail, the one in control of how he lived his faith-life, and carried out the vows he held, and his God would not forsake him, and God didn’t. Mary of Bethany knew she was the head and not the tail and did not waiver in her devotion as she kept her seat next to her Lord’s feet, even when her own sister tried to unseat her. She did not budge and Jesus came to her defense. So many others held on to this powerful truth and were not persuaded to be anything other than the head even when they were under fire, being pursued or attacked for their character or strong faith.

When you know you are meant to be the head and not the tail no one can persuade or lead you astray, influence you for evil or to go against all that the Lord has poured into you. Let’s pray.

Dear God, thank you for making us the head and not the tail, and for giving us dominion over our life, our person, our thoughts, our attitude, our heart and tongue. Help us to hold fast to this truth and do you proud with the way we conduct our life. Amen
