Affirming Message: “I Will Not Faint on the Day of Adversity, But I Will Endure!”

If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.—Proverbs 24:10

Be cognizant of your “self-speak” when you are going through adversity.

Adversity is any kind of misfortune, any difficulty, any serious or continued difficulty; those trying times and seasons that just will not let go, let up, or end quickly.

I don’t know how many times I have had to stop myself when going through something especially difficult and lengthy. I could be in the middle of a thought or repeating to myself or aloud how I wasn’t sure if I could make it through, wasn’t sure if I could do it, etc… Hear myself talking to myself about being tired, weary, worn out, and pausing to say “whoa! Pump your mental breaks! Don’t say that to yourself, don’t speak that over yourself! You are not weak in faith or strength.

Those little messages that seem innocent enough, the things we say off the top of our head or without thought make a B-line to our soul and spirit, take a non-stop-flight to our brain and become part of our thoughts and belief system. Speaking over our circumstances, capacity, or abilities is the same as prophesying over our circumstances and predicting our outcome or setting limitations on ourselves. Even little statements like “I can’t do this!… “I don’t think I can make it through this… “I can’t take this anymore, “I don’t think I will ever get over this!” seems harmless enough but they can have a lasting impact and set us up for failure, put us on track for giving up, weaken our resolve and give the devil room to mess around in our head, situation, and circumstance.

Solomon said, don’t even entertain fainting. The apostles Peter and Paul wrote extensively about enduring and persevering during trials and suffering (Rom. 5; I Peter). Both testifying that is through suffering we learn the characteristic of endurance. Paul refused to give even the tiniest bit of space or leeway for fainting to happen during adversity. He would speak the promises and commands of God over his person and situation in a heartbeat. He was not going to limit himself or give the devil any room to come in and mess around in his ministry, or his person. He recognized that with the power of Christ he could accomplish all that was necessary for him to accomplish. Therefore he confidently said, no matter how challenging this is, no matter how hard it looks I don’t care how tough it appears or over my head, or beyond my level of expertise “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”  (Php. 4:13) Like Paul, we are to be encouragers of ourselves not discouragers.

Solomon said, you are not a weakling in the faith; you are not going to faint during adversity.

You can endure. What can you endure? Whatever you need to. Because you are no stranger to suffering or adversity you have learned how to get through anything you face in life. With God’s help, you can and have gotten through whatever you have needed to get through and endure. God has and he will continue to help you endure pain and suffering, loss and grief, physical illness, devastations, trials, tribulations, disappointments, hardships, troubles of all kinds, persecutions, injustices; the things you would not wish on your worst enemy; God can and has helped you endure, and you have even grown spiritually and in character, through all your adversities. This is what has made you so strong and your witness so sweet.

Your trials and adversities have taught you a great deal, and now you are reminded through God’s coaxing that the best thing you can do for yourself is to speak power over your life, your person, your mind, and situation, during adversity. The truth you speak over yourself and circumstances will open you up for God’s promises to be at work and you will blossom in every way; your strength will be amazing: your strength is not small because your God is not small. It’s the little things that matter, the power of your self-talk will make you shine like the spiritual star and powerhouse you are! Let’s Pray,

Dear God, I am so glad I have learned the power of both negative and positive, self-talk and the impact it can have in my circumstances and over my person. Keep me strong and always thinking and speaking in a positive manner especially when I am going through adversity. May my trust always be in you and my hope come from you and your written and spoken word. Amen

Affirmations I Can speak Over Myself:

I (name) will not faint in adversity! Amen

I (name) will not faint in the day of adversity, but I will endure! Amen

I (name) will not faint in the day of adversity, my faith is not small, I am not a spiritual weakling but have power through my Jesus to tackle and come through anything. I can do this because Christ gives me strength to endure! Amen
