Encouraging Affirmation: My Prayers Will Remove Mountains

For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to his mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you”—Matthew 17:20-21

Herein lies the secret to why God grants so many little successes in prayer before we get to the big things and most pressing matters in life. He knows the more success we experience in prayer the more we will believe there is something about prayer that works! So, we return to and depend upon prayer more and more, over and over. Therefore, he will not deny even the most childish or infantile prayer; because he wants us to know that he is our heavenly Father, listening, and wanting to answer our prayers; one of the reasons he answers the prayers of children, whether they are praying for a beloved pet, family member, their schoolwork or something they want and desire in their heart.

There is nothing like the feel of success when we have prayed fervently for something—no matter what it is—and God grants it. It makes all the time on our knees worth it. We will not disdain prayer but come to love and believe it is the supernatural power we need to live by.   

Jesus taught, “If you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there, and it will move.’ Knowing and claiming this power-packed promise from God and learning to use it even before we lean on anything else, will release us from our fears, doubts, or skepticism about prayer working.

This is a promise and truth the devil does not want us to know, use, or believe because he already knows prayer works. He’s seen with his own evil eyes and dark heart how God moves across the earth and in the lives of those who pray! The devil knows that when you and I pray with faith—even faith as small as a mustard seed—the mountains of life and circumstances will be removed and the things he has sent or stirred up will not have the impact on our life or attitude that he has planned for.

There are all kinds of mountains that need to be removed: there are situational and circumstantial mountains. There are mountains that involve our inner being: our heart’s position, our way of thinking, our attitude, our emotions. Mountains of fear, doubt, worry, anxiety, painful memories, addictions that will not let us go but keep hanging on year after year, season after season Mountains of grief and sorrow. Mountains we see that have set up stake in our world: injustices, hate, bigotry, unbelief, and oppression. The mountain may be big and foreboding but Jesus assures us that through prayer it can be removed.

The devil wants you to believe the big lie: that you are not good at praying; that God never listens to or answers your prayers like he does sister or brother so and so; that you don’t know the right words to say or the right way to say them when you pray; that prayer is a pointless activity; that you would never be able to remove a mountain—any kind of mountain—with your praying. On and on he whispers discouraging messages to convince you that you just don’t have the prayer “gifting” that others possess; that you just don’t have what it takes.  

But Jesus says believe otherwise. Believe the truth: that if your faith is as small as a tiny grain of mustard seed it is powerful enough and you can pray a mountain to be removed and it will happen. Jesus wants every believer: young and old, male, and female, new to prayer or seasoned, to know that faith in him will make their prayers powerful and effective just as James wrote in his letter to the Church (5:13).

By faith your prayers are powerful enough to bring a prodigal home, powerful enough to make a door that has been closed opened to you; powerful enough to make the sick well, powerful enough to remove any mountain in the world or your life. Jesus says, the Father is not only willing, but excited to move heaven and earth and remove mountains on your behalf when you pray. We can reclaim what the devil has stolen from us and affirm what our Lord tells us and see the miracles of God worked all around us; see those mountains be removed when we pray, but not only the removal of mountains but we will know because we have been party to it that there is nothing that is impossible for us through our prayer. We will become an unstoppable, undeniable, praying machine. Able to say with confidence “Look out mountain here we come!” Let’s Pray,

Jesus, I release any past doubt or skepticism I have held about my own prayers or being ineffective in prayer, to you and I affirm your powerful promise that my prayers will remove mountains, over my life. Today, I affirm with you that I am a person of prayer and my prayers are powerful land effective to remove mountains. In your name I pray Amen.

I (name) have been created by God, in his image, have faith in Jesus and power through the Holy Spirit. I am a person of faith and prayer and I can remove mountains when I pray! Amen
