Suggested Reading: Isaiah 30:15

Focus Verse: Be still and know that I am God—Psalm 46:10

Think of how empowering stillness in the Lord God can be. Being still in the Lord is the last thing our enemy wants us to do during trials, during turbulent times, when we are faced with any trouble. He would prefer we stand and act alone, make snap decisions, get worked up, do things in a hurry, act and react out of the frenzy and chaos, and feeling pressured. Maybe because he knows when we are not just still but being still in the Lord, we are in a position of being counseled and shored up.

The prophet Isaiah wrote a word from the Lord. He said, “In returning and rest you will be saved; In quietness and trust shall be your strength.” Returning indicates we are in relationship with God. We are not just praying or seeking him in our time of crisis or trial, but seeking him, praying to him, consulting with him, fellowshipping with him is a natural and normal activity of our lives. Being quiet in him is an act of humility. We could formulate a plan and act out of our own will but quieting ourselves in our God is a position of the will, heart, and mind: submission. And in that quietness the Lord begins to calm us. We are seeing the matter, our problem, our need, the situation through God’s eyes and from his perspective which empowers us to either do something that is in line with his will or do nothing because that is in line with his will at that moment in time.

When we take all of this into consideration, we can understand and identify with what the prophet Jeremiah wrote in his scrolls,

“Blessed is the person who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of the drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” (Jer. 17:7-8)

The ability and willingness to quiet ourselves in the Lord during any time of trial or commotion, droughts or storms of all kinds, bears the fruit of inner strength, calmness, shalom peace, confidence, and encouragement of soul. No wonder the devil does not want us to seek and enjoy quietness in the Lord our God at any time but especially during storms or trials. Let’s Pray

Heavenly Father blessed are we when we seek you in any trial or when any problem arises. Blessed is the one who learns to quiet him or herself in you because they will surely receive your counsel, your wisdom, your peace; the overflow of your heart and being. In your presence the devil cannot harm or outsmart us, he cannot agitate us nor cause us to react out of fear or impatience because we are perfectly stilled and being perfectly filled. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen
