God Promises There is Nothing That is Too Hard for Him
Suggested Reading: Genesis 18:1-15
Ah, LORD God! it is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you—Jeremiah 32:17
I can do some math, but I am not a mathematician. I can do some things on my computer, enough to accomplish what I need to but I am not a computer whiz. I can grow some things in my garden, but I am far from a horticulturist. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, I can understand Scripture and write in such a way that I may help others draw closer to God and be encouraged, but I am not a theologian. There are a lot of things I can do efficiently and fairly well, but that does not mean I am an expert in them. In fact, there is still so much that is (way) too hard for me; way over my head.
What an awesome promise of God over us. What an amazing promise to do as God says, “Put him to the test and see if he does not pour out a blessing so big we cannot handle” (Malachi 3:10). A promise that will stretch our faith and test our trust in what God promises. When we start to live in this promise we will experience miracles and wonders beyond our wildest dreams and imaginations. As Paul writes, we will experience exceedingly, abundantly more than we can ever think, ask, or imagine (Eph 3:20). Doors will fling open, blessings will be like rain showers over us and our peace-odometer will be off the chart; our confidence of faith will go sky-high.
When does the magnitude of what God promises here settle in? When do we know without a doubt that God specializes in the impossible? How long until we start to live in this promise? When we are backed in a corner, involved in an impossible situation? When our need for healing is beyond medical science and modern technology? When we have closed the books on our marriage, given up on having children, when our relationships have the death nail in them? When our account is down to zero and our pockets have nothing but lint? When all looks bleak and nothing looks hopeful? When everything on paper points to a “no” and rejection is as certain as the sun rising the next day? When storms are raging fast and furious? When there is nothing anyone can do and we have run out of steam to try anymore?
It is then God surprises us by delivering, healing, making a way, supplying, quieting? God says though it should not take these to convince us, but just in case it does, even then we are blessed. God’s specialty is impossibility. His miracles only happen where our expertise, answers, and resources leave off. We don’t have to wait until we are at our last to pray for God to do something with our too-hard, too-difficult, too-emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually exhausting situation, but we do have to be willing to move out of his way and give him room to work. Let’s Pray,
Dear God how many times we are stunned by the things you do with our impossible situations and circumstances. We praise and thank you for loving us so much you spare nothing on our behalf. May our trust in this wonderful promise be perfected as we come up against our impossibilities. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen
