God Promises to Give You Hope
Suggested Reading: Acts 2:14-28
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.—Romans 15:13
Paul writes may the God of hope through the power of the Holy Spirit enable you to abound in hope. As long as Christian hope is alive in us, life cannot break us, we will not be defeated, we will not remain in despair or stay discouraged, we will not crumble under the weight of our problems or snap under the pressures we experience in life. Hope reminds us what we already know: that God can make the best out of the worst situations and bring good out of the least desirable circumstances; that he is able to shine light in any darkness—he is the Light in every darkness—no matter how deep or widespread.
Where Christian hope exists, no night can be completely dark, no wilderness completely barren, no loneliness is without comfort and no fear overwhelming to the point that we are suffocated and choked by it. Even in death we can see life rising.
Christian hope—which is different from the world’s hope, is based on God’s power and sovereignty, his character and nature, everything God is, is what the Christian can put his or her hope in. Christian hope cradles the promises of God and is their lifejacket in the storms of life. It is faith that fills a heart with joy even when it is on the verge of breaking or has been crushed. The hope God gives is an invincible spirit not even the enemy can destroy no matter how many flaming arrows he shoots at us. At every age or any season God gives us hope and we cannot go wrong when we put our hope in him. Even when things are at their worst, we are able and right to declare, “God is my hope! My living, ever-giving, ever-present hope and my god, who is my hope will not disappoint me! Let’s Pray
Heavenly Father, your promise of hope does not fail us! It is always right on time. It keeps us going and gives us strength to endure and persevere. In you we are always hopeful and Christian hope is not sinking or shifting sand, but solid ground to stand upon when everything around us falling apart. It is not hope as the world has hope because it does not disappoint us. Thank you for the promise of hope which is also ours for the asking and ours through your blessing. Hope is the treasure of our heart and the joy of our soul. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
