Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. the LORD will fight for you and you have only to be silent—Exodus 14:14

See the scene Moses writes about in Exodus 14. There is a lot of commotion. A lot of fear. A lot of noise and frantic activity. The scene is one of chaos and frenzy. The enemy, Pharaoh and his army are gaining rapidly. The people want to run but there is nowhere to go. They are yelling at Moses and blaming him for getting them in their current predicament and danger, but God has Moses’ ear and Moses, in turn calls the people to a sense of peace and quietness. Stop all your franticness. Do not be afraid of this army coming at you. Yes, they are big and strong and have mighty weapons. Yes, they are systematic in what they do. Yes, they are gaining fast. Yes, if it is left up to them there will be bloodshed and you will be defeated; you will be enslaved again. But listen. God has spoken. All you need to do is stand firm and see the salvation of the LORD which he will work for you today. These Egyptians you see today, you will never see again because the LORD is going to fight for you, all you need to do is be silent.”

Our God is a warrior and there has never been a battle that he has not won. The same words he spoke through Moses that day are the same ones he repeats to us during our times of warfare. If we look closely at the enemies trying to fight against us, examine the wars that have been waged all around us with a spiritual eye, understand that behind the flesh and personalities, behind the systems, agendas and philosophies, there is actually a deeper, hidden, spiritual battle taking place and in that case the battle is not ours but Gods, and no weapon formed against us shall prosper (2 Chron. 20:15; Isa. 54:17)

God knows it is hard to keep silent and do nothing when enemy forces are stirring the nest, stirring up, propagating, strategizing, trying to shake us from peace, freedom, and confidence. Hard to be silent when we do not feel as though anyone is defending or standing up for us. Hard to keep silent when we have a lot to say in or about the matter at hand; after all, we do not want our enemy to think we are weak or a pushover. But God says I know it sounds insane, but this is what I need you to do, stand firm in your faith—not in yourself to win this battle or conquer this enemy—but stand firm in your faith in me to fight for you and overcome your great enemy no matter what or who it is. Hush your fussing, hollering, crying. Stop being fearful and uncertain, wavering and spiritually feeble. Most of all do not do anything that will get in my way. Be silent, learn to be observant and watch me work. Let’s Pray

Good Shepherd, we get worked up, frantic, nervous and forget to pause and consider your strength and power is enough in any battle. Our self-sufficiency, ego, and pride can not only get in our way but interfere with your plans and timetable. Our fears blind us to what you are doing behind the scenes and in front of our face. May we, on this day and going forward, trust in you to fight our battles for us. May we become obedient to this mighty word of instruction you have given through Moses and simply stand firm in our faith, observe you at work, be silent and watch you fight for us. Today we give you all the battles we have been trying to fight in our own way. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
